BOCMA Mandela Day 2013
18 July 2013
The Breede-Overberg Catchment Management Agency established by the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to manage water resources in the Breede-Overberg area line with the United Nations celebrated the Mandela Day on Thursday, 18 July 2013, through a donation of blankets, clothes and non-perishable food to the Eerste Begin (Magrieta Fredericks) shelter.
Located in Worcester West, the shelter was officially opened in August 2008 and it houses abused women and children. It is a non-profit organization registered with the Provincial Department of Social Development (DSD). The shelter manager Ms. Heather West said the donation was heart-warming because as management they struggled to put food on the table for a very long time. “This donation shows that even though we struggled to get funding all is not in vein”, she said.
The BOCMA staff members came out in numbers to hand over donation of blankets, clothes and none-perishable food to the shelter and they also sang happy birthday song to the states man, Nelson Mandela.
According to Phakamani Buthelezi, Chief Executive Officer of BOCMA “the Mandela Day is a day of goodwill that requires our inner most humanity in showing our caring attributes especially to those who need it the most”. He went further to say that BOCMA is privileged to be associated with the shelter on this important day as part of its social responsibility drives.
