Establishment Of The Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency

The Breede Overberg Catchment Management Agency has been officially changed to Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency with immediate effect. This comes after the former Minister of Department of Water Affairs Mrs Edna Molewa approved the expansion of the boundary and area of operation of the Breede-Overberg Catchment Management Agency in terms of Section 78(4) of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No.36 of 1998).
The area of operation of the Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency includes the previous Breede-Overberg Water Management Area and Gouritz catchment.
The mandate of the Breede-Gouritz CMA is to manage water resources in the Breede-Overberg and Gouritz areas and to improve service delivery and sustainability of water
resources. Amongst other things; the Breede-Gouritz CMA ensures quality water for all people and the environment ensures good administration of water registration and licensing, promote economic growth in a sustainable way and also addresses developmental needs of the people and contribute to the eradication of poverty.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Phakamani Buthelezi “It is not going to be an easy task as we will have to manage the Organisational Change and ensure that this transition is embraced by all workers to ensure that service delivery is not hampered in any way”. He further explained that he is at the same time excited about the expansion and ready to move the Breede-Gouritz CMA to greater heights.
